On Wednesday, July 22, 2009, I, Daniela Jurado, am speaking in front of Dan Lipinski's office about Public Transit. As an LVEJO Intern I am aware of the public transit campaign and will speak on how Public Transit helps the environment. The problem with the CTA is that there aren't many buses and bus routes have been cut. These are peoples jobs getting taken away and people depend on the bus to get around. LVEJO found out that 20% of federal funding goes to public transit and 80% goes to highways. I believe we need more money for public transit instead of highways. People need to start eliminating their carbon footprint and a great way to start is by using the CTA. Studies have shown that using public transit emits less toxins into the air. On the other hand, Cars are great contributors to CO2 emissions and that is causing our Mother to get warmer. We are now dealing with climate change that is why July is not as hot as it usually is. These are issues that can be resolved, but the CTA is ignoring our requests. We need to get out there and have our demands met and as an organization we are fighting for that. We have requested to the CTA to install the 31st bus which would start from Cicero down to Museum Campus. Although bus fares are expensive, it is a great way to get around because one bus takes you far on less money and less emissions. I hope I can speak out to people that day and I hope we can get our bus and other more bus routes installed to meet everyone's needs and demands!
